Lay Worship Leaders

Lay Worship Leaders

In the Episcopal tradition, worship is a work of the people.

A corps of lay worship leaders join the rector in providing leadership. Lectors read assigned scripture lessons during worship. Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) administer the sacraments to persons receiving Holy Communion, most often as chalice bearers. Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs) take Holy Communion to those who are sick or otherwise homebound. Ushers open the church building for worship, greet arriving worshippers, distribute bulletins, aid people in finding a place to sit, orient newcomers to the church and collect the offering. Greeters arrive 15 minutes prior to the worship service to welcome all persons, especially newcomers, and make important introductions to the clergy and other members. Training for all these roles takes place annually in early September. For additional information and/or to volunteer, contact the Rector.
