The Vision Committee
The Vision Committee recommends to the
Vestry how best Trinity might live into its mission “to welcome, reach
out and care, so that all people may experience God’s love and celebrate
God in Christ with us.”
This Committee was born out of work
undertaken by an Ad Hoc Committee on Vision Possibilities during 2008.
Upon the recommendation of this Ad Hoc Committee, the Vestry formed a
permanent Vision Committee in January 2009 that would, under the
guidance of the Holy Spirit, have the following responsibilities:
1. Spearhead the pursuit and
execution of the Ad Hoc Committee’s vision priorities
2. Implement a strategy for
continuing discernment of feasibility where appropriate (e.g.,
affordable housing and the assignment of “listening posts” to key
community organizations);
3. Report quarterly to the Vestry
on progress;
4. Propose as necessary other
options for the Vestry and congregation to consider; and,
5. Provide a summary report for
inclusion in the annual meeting booklet.
The Vision Committee has organized itself
around four sub-committees. Click on each title for further information
about what is happening with that sub-group.
Maximizing Current Building Use
(e.g., explore the urgent need
and demand in the Arlington area for certified kitchen use along the
lines of the DC Kitchen or incubator business model and reconfiguring
worship space to accommodate fewer worshippers)
We antipitate the “Shelf Life” of the present
building to be ten to twelve years and funds for changes to be dear. In
working with KERNS GROUP ARCHITECTS, we have generated several different
configurations for the worship areas in an atttempt to provide a surface
without steps and at minimum cost.
A picture of the most recent sketch is shown
below:

(Click the sketch for a larger image)
We have considered alternative uses for the
906 Vitch St. property, but it seems that, for various reasons, it is
best suited for rental or sale.
Developing our Land and Property
(e.g., pursue the possibility of using
our property and land for Affordable Housing, another pressing need in
Arlington County) Click title for more info!
During January
2010, members of Trinity’s Vision Committee conducted small group
interviews with Trinity worshippers on worship space attributes,
challenges, and possible improvements. Targeted groups included Altar
Guild, Ushers, Acolyte representatives, 8:00 worshippers and the
physically challenged, hand bell chorus, adult choir, music in worship
task force, youth group and leaders, Seventh Day Adventists, Hospitality
leaders and newcomers. Our goal at this early stage of conversation was
to provide opportunity for all worshippers to provide input.

we received.
Serving Area Youth
(e.g., adopting Hoffman Boston Elementary
school as a youth outreach focus and launching a Youth “Arts for Life”
program for 3-5th graders from Hoffman Boston)
Our focus for the
youth sub-group is in two primary areas:
-
To provide
activities for neighborhood youth outside of our own parish.
-
To help
strenghten Trinity's youth program.

TheYouth "Arts for Life" program is
one way we are reaching out to neighborhood kids.

Becoming a Sustainable Congregation by Increasing
Membership and Stewardship
(Under the purview of the Vestry,
strengthen and stabilize stewardship of resources until greater revenue
drives can be successfully pursued)
Trinity's Vestry has worked this past year to increase awareness of
and the need for Stewardship and increasing
Membership in this church. Each month a member of the Vestry
spoke or made a presentation about Stewardship.
