Class #2        Anglican Way - Anglican Identity and Authority

Focus: How Anglicans Understand Scripture, Tradition, and Reason

Read: Chapters II and III, pages 3-16, A People Called Episcopalians by John Westerhoff; The Place of Scripture, Tradition and Reason, from The Official Report of the Lambeth Conference, 1998; and  Responding to Questions of Faith the Anglican Way

 

Class #3        So What Do We Anglicans Believe?

Focus: Those wonderful Creeds and how we live into them:  Do we believe in God the Father? Do we believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? Do we believe in God the Holy Spirit?

Read: Welcome to the Episcopal Church, excerpts from pages 64-75, by Christopher L. Webber; Into to  Glorious Companions by Richard Schmidt; and An Outline of the Faith (Catechism), BCP, p. 844-862.

 

Class #4        Taking First Steps

Focus: The Place of Prayer and The Sacraments

Read:  Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry, pp. 2-7, 14-15 and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Prayer, pp. 1-21

 

Class #5        Episcopal Particulars of Liturgy and Practice

Focus:  Why we do the things we do (written prayers, saints, the cross, bowing, genuflecting, Holy Communion, etc.)

Read: Chapters IV and V, pages 17-25, A People Called Episcopalians by John Westerhoff; and The Liturgy Explained, pages 35-48, by Thomas Howard

 

 

Class #6        Anglican Polity and the Ministry of the Baptized

The ministry of the baptized (BCP 855) is to represent Christ and his Church; to bear witness to him wherever  they may be; and according to the gifts given them, to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world; and to take their place in the life, worship, and governance of  the Church. Where will you seek to serve as you embrace ownership, membership and full belonging in the community of faith that is your church?

Focus: The Anglican Communion, The Episcopal Church Structure and Your Place In It
