Samaritan Ministry of
Greater Washington
 |

Meet Trinity’s newest next door
neighbor and partner in ministry. Samaritan Ministry of
Greater Washington is a community partnership bringing
together homeless people and others in need in Greater
Washington, with support and volunteers from many churches, in a
joint effort to improve the lives of all.
Samaritan Ministry promotes
awareness of the community’s needs, fosters partner-ships at all
levels, breaks down barriers imposed by poverty, and develops
participants’ abilities to help themselves to better lives. |
The agency's Next Step
self-sufficiency approach
allows Participants to set life improvement goals for themselves and
with the help of Samaritan Ministry staff, determine a series of
manageable, specific tasks toward the fulfillment of those goals.
Services such as housing and employment counseling, coaching,
motivation, and so much more are offered by our program.
The Northern Virginia office
was established in May 1998 with the help of St. Mary’s, Arlington and
other dedicated individuals. To this day, some of those dedicated
individuals continue to help Samaritan Ministry on a regular basis. Beau
Deitrich and Bob Satre have been the front office coordinators every
Monday and Tuesday since May 1998.
In the spirit of the Next Step
program, the Northern
Virginia office and Trinity Church took their own Next Steps to
form a new partnership and establish a new beginning by moving the
Northern Virginia office from 2924 Columbia Pike to 2207 Columbia Pike
in November 2004.
|
Joint
ministry initiatives
undertaken by Trinity Church and Samaritan Ministry have
included Trinity’s participation in a Walk to End Homelessness,
sponsorship of a Community Yard Sale in September 2004, proceeds
of which benefited Samaritan Ministries Northern Virginia office
and a benefit concert performed at Trinity by the Columbia Pike
Community Chorus. Trinity collaborates with Samaritan Ministry
in meeting the needs of its clients by serving as a referral
source to the agency, providing financial assistance as
requested, and offering through Samaritan Ministry vouchers for
clients to use at Trinity’s Columbia Pike Thrift Shop.
